About us |
WHAT WE BELIEVE We are a gathered group of people of all ages believing in the Christian faith and taking the teaching and example of Jesus Christ seriously. In this way we seek God’s guidance for our individual lives and the way we live in our communities. We believe it is important that:
WHAT
WE AIM FOR and WHAT WE DO
To
be a church faithful in worship, responding in joy and reflection to God’s
love and Word. |
We regularly worship together and with other local Christians, offering praise and prayer and exploring the Good News of Jesus Christ as we have it though the Bible. Details
of Sunday worship are on the main notice board. |
To
provide accessible and meaningful worship and education for people of
all ages.
Worship includes Communion twice a month. Services are varied in style and all ages worship together, with younger people then learning and worshipping in their own groups. A créche is available. Open groups meet during the week for Bible Study and discussion of topical issues. Occasional short courses are arranged. |
The Burford Day Centre, intended primarily for those living alone, runs on Wednesdays including lunch. The Burford Society has a weekly programme of interest presentations from October to March. Our youth organisations, including Scouting and Guiding, are open to all. Our premises are available to the local community. A Charity Christmas Card shop runs from late October to early December |
To respond to needs in the wider community. |
We take an active interest in social issues and in the local and overseas work of brother and sister Christians and those of other faiths and none. Considerable funds are raised for charitable agencies and we engage in specific projects through the Council for World Mission and the Commitment for Life programme. We are committed to fair trade and run a monthly Traidcraft stall. |
To provide support and fellowship for all who wish it. |
Those associated with the congregation are cared for through a system of pastoral oversight for which the Elders are responsible. A Prayer Network is open to requests for prayer and 'Palmers Prayers' is published monthly. Social occasions are arranged from time to time. 'A Place for Coffee' is open on Saturdays from 10.30 until noon. |

HOW WE RELATE We are a congregation of the United Reformed Church, which was formed in 1972 from Presbyterian, and Congregational traditions and later joined by fellowships of the Churches of Christ. Our own history mirrors this as congregations in the area have united. We are one of five local churches covenanted together in a local ecumenical partnership (the Uniting Churches of Palmers Green), undertaking not to do separately that which can be done together. We share a Minister with the United Reformed Church in Winchmore Hill. On a wider scale, we belong to the Thames North Synod of the URC, and as a denomination the URC is a member of the Council for World Mission and of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches.
HOW TO FIND OUT MORE There is more information (including contact ‘phone numbers) on the outside notice boards outside the church and in the halls foyer. Please help yourself to a weekly notice sheet and/or the monthly Magazine! On Sundays, don’t hesitate to ask an Elder (they wear coloured badges) or any member of the congregation. If you would like to know more about this church or learn more about the Christian faith, or would like someone to visit you, please use the notice sheet tear-off slip and put it in the ‘Welcome’ box by the main door of the church, or hand it to an Elder. The Interim Minister is Revd. David A.L. Jenkins The Church Secretary is Brian Ball |
